Ashanti is gearing up to star as Dorothy in the upcoming production of "The Wiz" at the world famous New York City Center from June 12-July 5th . Peep a video of them rehearsing below:
Get ready to ease on down the road, because the soulful rock musical “The Wiz” is returning to the New York stage. Based on L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wizard Of Oz,” the production will be part of City Center’s Summer Encore Series.
Grammy Award winner and New York theater newcomer Ashanti stars as Dorothy.
“This is such a different genre than what I [normally] do in my career,” says Ashanti. “Just being able to soak up so much, you know, all the passion that’s here, all the stage presence, it’s a little different. So I’m learning, I’m a sponge.”

Talk about random appearance, her album "The Deceleration" came out June last year, maybe some one made a last minute cancellation and they filled in with her. I'm not really feeling her spread as well.
