Over the next four weeks, MTV are allowing fans to vote at vma.mtv.com for VMA categories including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Pop Video, Best Rock Video, Best New Artist, and Video of the Year.

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles September 7th.

MTV confirmed Thursday that comedian Russell Brand, best known in the states for his hilarious performance in the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Penelope, will be hosting the 2008 Video Music Awards. Not as well known as many of the previous VMA hosts (including Jack Black, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Chris Rock), this British import comes as a surprising choice for this year’s event.
